Elektrodistribuenie North plans to clean more than 1,000 kilometers of sieves around power lines in Northeastern Bulgaria in 2026. The measure is part of the company's commitment to increase the security of the electricity distribution network.

In 2025, the company implemented large-scale cleaning activities of the easement zones along the network in the region. As a result, 559 km of power lines were cleared and 21,000 dangerous marked trees were cut down. The main objective of the initiative was to reduce the risk of accidents and provide a more reliable power supply, especially in adverse weather conditions. The searches carried out significantly helped and minimized the accidents that occurred on the network as a result of the bad weather this week.

The clean-up activities were carried out in close cooperation with state institutions, local authorities and forestry. In individual cases, the safe operation of the network necessitated the expansion of the easement zones in order to ensure the safe operation of the facilities.

In 2025 ERP North has made significant investments in new high-pass machines and specialized equipment in order to be able to efficiently sift the maximum number of power lines from the electricity distribution network with its own efforts. Among the key benefits are the FAE-300 crawler self-propelled machines with mulching head and bulldozer rake — 2 pieces, worth 820,000 euros. These specialized machines play a key role in carrying out the sifting, ensuring efficient and safe removal of vegetation along the route of the overhead lines. This will help to increase the security and reliability of the energy infrastructure in the long term.

In 2026 Electricity Distribution North will continue its efforts to maintain the safety of the electricity distribution network by making crossovers. The main focus remains the work on the removal of dangerous trees in problem areas in cooperation with the regional forest directorates, state enterprises, regional forest and hunting farms of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food. The results of 2025 demonstrate the effectiveness of the measures taken, with the reported reduction in the risk of accidents and the optimised costs underlining the importance of systematic preventive maintenance of the electricity distribution network.
