In connection with the increased number of signals for higher electricity bills in January, ENERGO-PRO specifies that the increase is due to the higher real consumption in the reporting period.

The average January customer bill of the company compared to the previous one was higher by 40%, which is entirely due to the measured higher customer consumption of 41%. Despite the significant increase in the bill compared to the previous one, the January bill is comparable to that for 2025 and compared to it is higher by 15.8%, which is due to both the reported and disclosed in the mass media, including by Electricity System Operator, higher consumption during the Christmas and New Year holidays this year, as well as the two amendments on the price of electricity with solutions of KEVR C-3 from 01.01.2025 with +8.55% and C-25 from 01.07.2025 with +2.53%.

During this period, significantly lower average temperatures were recorded compared to the previous year. For the different areas supplied by the company, the measured average temperatures were between 1.4 and 3.7 degrees lower. This led to a more intensive use of electric heating appliances. Even if the heating appliances are set to maintain the same temperature throughout the winter season, the consumption graph rises sharply with decreasing outside temperatures. This is due to the fact that a large part of the electric heating appliances used lower their coefficient of useful action (CPD) at temperatures of around -5°C and below, which necessitates the use of significantly more electricity to maintain the same thermal comfort. In cases where the increase in bills is significantly above average, this is also determined by the individual consumption profile and the energy efficiency of the dwelling.

The invoices issued in January also cover the period of the Christmas and New Year holidays, which this year included a greater number of days off than the previous one. This has led to a longer stay in homes and, accordingly, to a higher consumption of electricity. In the districts of Varna and Dobrich, the announced flu epidemics and the transition to online education for students had an additional impact.

ENERGO-PRO data for the beginning of February show a trend of continued increased consumption. For the first five days of February 2026, the quantities of electricity supplied to the ENERGO-PRO network are approximately 23% higher compared to the same period in 2025. This is indicative that factors independent of the company, such as lower temperatures, continue to operate beyond the reporting period of January invoices and will be reflected in subsequent customer accounts.

The company emphasizes that the reporting period for each account does not exceed the statutory maximum of 31 days. In case of doubts about the correctness of the reported consumption, customers have the opportunity to submit an alert for verification in the established order.

Electricity prices for domestic customers are set by the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission (EWRC) and are not unilaterally changed by the company.

ENERGO-PRO reminds that every customer can check the details of their consumption through the company's online services and receive assistance from the experts in the customer centers and on the round-the-clock telephone lines. The company continues to work in full cooperation with the EWRC and the competent institutions in relation to the inspections carried out.

ENERGO-PRO takes into account the concerns of its customers and remains committed to open communication, accurate accounting of consumption and timely information on the factors affecting electricity bills.
