EPR North continues activities on its key bird conservation project in North-East Bulgaria
With the onset of spring, Elektrodistribuenie North continues its activities under the project “Safe Sky for Birds in North-East Bulgaria”, funded under the LIFE program of the European Union and implemented jointly with the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds (BSPB).
The project is being implemented for the third year in a row, and the activities are carried out under suitable climatic conditions, and the main objective is to reduce the risk for endangered bird species by securing the electricity distribution network.
Work on installation of safety devices under the project was carried out on the overhead power distribution network in the districts of Pisarevo, Blatnitsa and Rositsa, Veliko Tarnovo region. 28 pillars were secured at the Pisarevo well, on which 28 sets of bird protection devices (PSUs) are installed, respectively. On the air power lines Vira and Polyana, 3 poles with a total of 6 sets of PSUs are secured. The installed devices are specialized insulating elements that are installed on electrical equipment in order to prevent electric shock and injury to the feathered when they land in dangerous proximity to the current-carrying parts, while also limiting the likelihood of accidents in the power distribution network. By implementing them, both biodiversity protection and a more reliable electricity supply are achieved.
The project activities will continue in the coming months as part of the company's long-term efforts to protect biodiversity and reduce the risk of bird accidents on the electricity distribution infrastructure.
